The art of living on the Isle of Flowers

Martinique, the island of flowers

One thousand one hundred and twenty-eight square kilometers, from the volcanic north to the beaches of the south: Martinique is the only destination in the world to produce an appellation d'origine contrôlée rum. Its Montagne Pelée and the Pitons du Nord will join UNESCO's World Heritage List in 2023, and the island is home to the only Relais & Châteaux in the French West Indies.

The world's only terroir AOC rum

Martinique is the only destination in the world to produce rum under the appellation d'origine contrôlée label. Nine distilleries in operation, including Habitation Clément in Le François (remarkable garden, contemporary art foundation), Saint-James in Sainte-Marie (the island's oldest brand), and J.M on the slopes of La Pelée. A terroir compared to cognac or champagne.

Montagne Pelée and the Pitons du Nord, UNESCO World Heritage Site

A World Heritage site, La Pelée rises to 1,397 meters and remains an active volcano. The 1902 eruption destroyed the town of Saint-Pierre and remains the world reference in volcanology. Three trails lead up to the crest in 2 to 4 hours, with views over the Caribbean and Dominica.

A top-class Creole gastronomic scene

Marcel Ravin (Michelin-starred) designs the table at the Hotel Simon in Fort-de-France. Alongside them, a number of renowned chefs are driving the contemporary Creole gastronomic scene, in the tradition of the art of the table inherited from the terroir.
