Anglo-Caribbean glamour

Barbados, the jewel of the Caribbean Sea

The easternmost island of the Lesser Antilles, an independent republic since November 2021 but British at heart, Barbados is the classic Caribbean palace destination: Sandy Lane, opened in 1961, has established the grammar of island luxury. Three complementary coasts, more than three centuries of rum (Mount Gay, 1703) and the capital Bridgetown, classified UNESCO in 2011.

The benchmark for Caribbean palaces

Sandy Lane remains one of the world's benchmarks for island luxury. Next door, Cobblers Cove (Relais & Châteaux), The Sandpiper, Coral Reef Club and Fairmont Royal Pavilion form a collection of family-run addresses handed down through generations, unrivalled in the Lesser Antilles.

Three coasts, three moods, one transfer

The Platinum Coast to the west for calm waters and palaces. The South Coast for Oistins, St. Lawrence Gap and nightlife. The east coast for Bathsheba, the Soup Bowl surf spot and the wild Atlantic. No journey takes more than an hour: one island, three atmospheres.

A strong, vibrant, identifiable culture

Mount Gay (1703, oldest active rum distillery in the world), Bridgetown UNESCO, cricket at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown-born Rihanna, Bajan cuisine, Friday night Oistins Fish Fry: Barbados has a cultural identity unlike any other island.

The dry season runs from December to May temperatures between 24 and 30°C, sea temperature 26-28°C, constant trade winds, rare rainfall. The ideal window recommended by our teams is February to April. The hurricane season runs from June to November, but Barbados lies on the eastern edge of the hurricane belt, statistically less exposed than the central Lesser Antilles. The Crop Over Festival, in early August, is one of the Caribbean's great carnivals.

No visa required for nationals of american, canadian, british, european, australian and new zealanders for tourist stays of up to 6 months. Passport valid 6 months after date of arrival required. Return or onward ticket required on arrival. French identity cards are not accepted: Barbados has been an independent republic since 2021.

The official currency is the Barbadian dollar (BBD), with a fixed parity of 1 USD = 2 BBD since 1975. The US dollar is accepted everywhere: hotels, restaurants, cabs, shops. Visa and Mastercard are accepted in all upscale establishments. Numerous ATMs in Bridgetown, Holetown and around the airport. Euros are not accepted; please bring dollars or an international card.

Barbados is distinguished by three markers: a historic palace scene inherited from the golden age of the great Caribbean hotels of the 60s, a unique coral geography (non-volcanic island, powdery white sand beaches, gentle relief), and a vibrant British culture (cricket, pubs, left-hand drive) coupled with a strong Bajan identity. It's also the easternmost island, statistically less exposed to cyclones than its neighbors.

The consistent minimum is 5 nights for a first discovery: Platinum Coast, Bridgetown UNESCO, Mount Gay, East Coast day trip. The optimal format for tailor-made tours is 7 to 10 nights, which allows you to add a private cruise, several gourmet addresses and a wild Atlantic day. For a combination with the Grenadines (Mustique, Canouan), Grenada or Saint Lucia, allow 10 to 14 nights in total.
