Travel to Saba

The secret of the happy few

Saba, the confidential of the Lesser Antilles

Thirteen volcanic square kilometers in the north of the Lesser Antilles, two thousand inhabitants, no palaces, no hotel chains, and Mount Scenery at 877 meters, the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Home to one of the world's top five diving spots, Saba remains one of the Caribbean's most confidential destinations: just 15,000 visitors a year, fewer than 200 rooms in all.

The Caribbean's most unique diving sanctuary

Saba Marine Park surrounds the entire island. Thirty buoyed sites, volcanic pinnacles that rise from a depth of 90 meters, reef sharks, rays and large pelagics. Saba features in every list of the world's top diving destinations, alongside Cocos Island, the Galapagos and Raja Ampat.

The highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in the cloud forest

Mount Scenery, a dormant 877-metre volcano, is the absolute highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, higher than any metropolitan peak. It is reached by 1,064 steps carved into the rock, through a cloud forest covered with endemic bromeliads and orchids. Seventeen marked trails cover the island.

A timeless Dutch village

White houses, green shutters, red tin roofs, Victorian gingerbread ornaments: Windwardside, The Bottom, Saint John's and Zion's Hill make up an architectural ensemble unique in the Caribbean. Boutique hotels (Queen's Gardens, Juliana's, Selera Dunia, Shearwater) blend into this fabric without disfiguring it.

No. Saba has virtually no beaches. The island is entirely volcanic, with cliffs plunging straight into the sea. Travelers looking for white sand will prefer Anguilla, Saint-Barthélemy or Turks and Caicos. Saba is chosen for world-class diving, cloud forest hiking, the authenticity of an unspoiled Dutch village and absolute privacy. It's a signature stop on a Caribbean holiday, not a beach destination.

The ideal size for Saba is 3 to 4 nights, integrated into a broader Northern Caribbean holiday: classic combination with Saint-Barthélemy, Anguilla or Sint-Maarten.
