Trip to Saint-Barthélemy

Discreet elegance

Saint-Barthélemy, the French art of living in the Caribbean

Twenty-five square kilometers, fourteen beaches, barely twenty-five hotels: Saint-Barthélemy has long since opted for a rare level of sophistication. Formerly a Swedish trading post and now a French Collectivité, the island boasts a gastronomic density unrivalled in the Caribbean, as well as some of the most sought-after architect-designed villas in the Lesser Antilles.

A gastronomic density unique in the Caribbean

On an island you can cross in twenty minutes, nearly eighty restaurants share Gustavia, Saint-Jean and Lorient. Many are the work of renowned chefs: Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Eden Rock, Jean Imbert at Cheval Blanc. The rest can be found at local favorites: L'Esprit Saline, Bonito, Maya's.

Fourteen public beaches, all freely accessible

In Saint-Barthélemy, no beach is privatized. Grande Saline, Gouverneur, Colombier and Shell Beach are all freely accessible, many only on foot or by boat. The Marine Nature Reserve offers some of the best snorkeling in the Lesser Antilles, at both Pain de Sucre and Île Fourchue.

The spirit of yachting and a meeting place for the finest yachts

The port of Gustavia is one of the legendary stops on the Caribbean yachting circuit. The island hosts two major regattas: the St Barts Bucket in March and Les Voiles de Saint-Barth Richard Mille in April. Out of regatta season, the private catamaran trip to Colombier and Ile Fourchue remains the signature experience.

Frequently asked questions

The dry season runs from December to April temperatures between 27 and 30°C, sea temperature at 26°C, moderate trade winds and little rain. The ideal window recommended by our teams is February-March, after the holiday rush. The hurricane season extends from August to October, when some hotels close their doors. For a stay during the Bucket Regatta (March) or Les Voiles de Saint-Barth Richard Mille (April), you need to plan ahead by several months.

No visa required for nationals and the European Union Visa requirements: simple passport or valid French identity card. For American, Canadian, British, Australian and New Zealand nationals: no visa required for tourist stays of less than 90 days, but passport valid for more than 6 months required. Other nationalities must obtain a Schengen visa mentioning the Collectivité de Saint-Barthélemy.

The official currency is the’euro. Visa and Mastercard are accepted everywhere. The US dollar is often accepted in Gustavia's hotels and stores, but at an unfavorable exchange rate. There's no need to bring dollars if you're arriving from Europe: the euro is more than sufficient.

The minimum consistent format is 5 nights given the compulsory transit via Saint-Martin. Our advice for a real immersion : 7 to 10 nights, These are often combined with a stopover in Saint-Martin, Anguilla or Antigua, or a stopover in New York or Miami before or after. For the Christmas and New Year weeks, bookings can be made by 12 to 18 months in advance The best palaces sell out early.

No public transport. Visit car rental is almost essential, ideally a small model (Suzuki Jimny, Mini Cooper, Mini Moke) because of the narrow roads and tight bends. French, European and American driving licenses are accepted. Cabs are available, but are few and far between and expensive (regulated fares, no Uber). Palaces, like our agency, systematically organize private transfers.
